Kathmandu: The number of new voter registrations has risen sharply following the introduction of voter registration through the national identity card.
To manage the growing pressure of registrations, the Election Commission began collecting biometric details — including photographs and fingerprints — using national identity cards starting November 13.
The registration and update process is being carried out in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, as of November 15, a total of 50,217 men, 30,235 women, and four others have registered using their national identity cards.
With this, the total number of newly registered voters has reached 281,129 since the election was announced. The registration process continues today as well.
